Our skin is unique and has distinct needs. Just like any skin type, each requires special care. Dry skin lacks moisture and would need dedicated skincare.
According to dermatologists, the top layer of your skin is composed of natural oils, which help trap moisture to keep the skin soft and smooth. However, if there’s not enough water, which can take place if the protective oils are decreased, dry skin happens. It then tends to feel itchy and inflamed and might result in painful cracks.
Our initial instinct is to soothe it with moisturizer, but this is a temporary solution. How can we better take care of dry skin with even simpler yet clean skincare regimen?
Here's 3 tips to help soothe your dry skin and make it glow again:
1. Use facial oils for long-lasting hydration
Good facial oil for dry skin is the answer. It supplements the natural oils your skin produces to add moisture to your skin and lock it in. Choose skincare that contains naturally-derived oils such as coconut, olive, and jojoba. Moreover, facial oil is a cleaner and simpler product as it doesn't contain an emulsifier that's often found in lotions and cream.
Apart from facial oil, if you suffer from dry to very dry skin, hydration serums are key to soothing your skin. These are packed with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and are enriched with a balance of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acids.
Continued use will give long-term soothing effects to the itchy, dry patches. This also helps improve skin moisture and protects it from dryness that could be caused by external factors such as cold weather or tap water with a high concentration of minerals.
2. Be aware of Fragrance
Stay away from possible allergens - and fragrance tops that list. Most skincare products include fragrance to mask the smell of its ingredients and make it marketable.
So when purchasing products, take time to read the ingredients list. Run if you spot ‘fragrance’, especially if it’s in the early part of the list.

3. Know your ingredients
As you go through the ingredients list, watch out for any artificial elements. When it comes to selecting a facial oil for dry skin, choose those that are packed with naturally-derived ingredients.
Select skincare that is sustainably created and produced without any toxic chemicals. Clean skincare also features ingredients that are ethically sourced and good for our bodies and the environment. They’re mostly packaged using recycled materials too. (You may like to know more about: Know More Resilience Facial Oil)
Additionally, prevent making these 3 mistakes that will cause the skin to get drier.
1. Cleansing your face with hot water as it strips your skin’s natural oils.
2. Using cleansers that contain SLS/ SLES (sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate) and paraben that can lead to excessive cleansing. They are foaming agents commonly found in cosmetic products that could wash away oil and possibly irritate your skin. Meanwhile, parabens are preservatives, and exposure to excessive amounts can be harmful.
3. Exfoliating your skin too often can also remove your skin’s natural oils. and make your dry skin even worse.
It’s important to know how to care for your skin type early on. Be mindful of what you put on your skin. Stay away from harmful and artificial ingredients. Trust clean skincare products to draw moisture back to your skin.
Opt for a long-term solution and switch your moisturizer to facial oil and watch wonders happen to your skin right before your eyes.
