In recent years, the global shift toward a circular economy and the use of recycled materials in beauty packaging has gained significant traction. Greenvines is proud to introduce that brand's latest advanced anti-aging serum , the Know More Natural Aptitude Serum, is packaged in a bottle made from 50% recycled glass, a practice we have now extended to all of our facial care products. In collaboration with our recycling partner, we’ve exceeded the industry standard of 25-35% of the proportion of recycled glass seen in some international brands, raising the bar for sustainability.
So, how did the recycled glass bottle of this new serum come to be? Let’s explore its fascinating creation process.
Why Glass? The Story Behind Recycled Glass
Glass is a simple, stable material that can be 100% recycled and reused, making it an ideal choice for eco-conscious brands. Not only is the recycling rate high, but the process also produces relatively low pollution, which is why Greenvines has long prioritized glass for its facial care product packaging.
However, when it comes to recycling glass for skincare products, particularly for bottles that require high levels of hygiene and aesthetic appeal, clearer sources of glass are necessary. Rather than the typical brown or green recycled glass, we use transparent glass sourced from materials such as smartphone screens and LCD monitors.
The Six-Step Process: From Recycled Glass to Serum Bottle
Step 1: Sorting
The journey begins with the glass undergoing an eight-step process including transportation, sorting, color separation, impurity removal, coarse crushing, fine grinding, size screening, and storage. This meticulous preparation ensures that the waste glass is ready for reuse.
Step 2: Melting
The sorted glass is then melted in an electric furnace at temperatures as high as 2,000°F, transforming it into molten glass ready for shaping.
Step 3: Molding
The molten glass is poured into pre-designed molds, and as the temperature drops, the glass is cut and prepared to take its final shape.
Step 4: Shaping
After being removed from the molds, the bottles undergo an initial quality check. Defective pieces are separated and sent back for remelting and repurposing. At this stage, the bottles are still red-hot from the process, indicating they are still cooling down.
Step 5: Cooling
To ensure the bottles cool down evenly and prevent cracking, they are placed in a slow-cooling oven for one to two hours. This step is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the bottle.
Step 6: Quality Control
Once cooled, the bottles go through a final quality control process. Each bottle is inspected for consistency in color, thickness, and weight before being packed and prepared for the serum inside.
A Sustainable Future with Greenvines
By using 50% recycled glass, Greenvines is taking a significant step toward sustainability. But this is just the beginning—we are committed to finding even more sustainable packaging solutions in the future. Additionally, the outer packaging of this new serum is made from 100% recycled paper, which can also be fully recycled again, reinforcing our dedication to eco-friendly practices.
We hope you love this new sustainable approach as much as we do!
